How To Hand Wash Your Bras

If you spent a fair amount of money on your bras, panties and lingerie you may want to hand wash them. Hand washing the intimates will prolong the life of them.  We know we are all so busy that the convenience of a washing machine may outweigh the delicate touch hand washing can provide.  Here we will tell you how to hand wash your bra.  If you must choose convenience, we will also tell you the best way to machine was your dainty pieces also.

Machine Washing Your Lingerie

Water temperature should be set to cool it is best to use a mild detergent for this load. We suggest Dreft, Woolite Delicates or Seventh Generation.  All of these can be found on Amazon. Be sure your washer is set to the delicate cycle this will prevent any lace or straps from getting caught on your machine which can cause tears. It is advised to not use fabric softener when washing bras, however if you try washing without it and you really don’t like the feel you can use it, but just be aware it may reduce the elasticity of your bra over time.

Once the wash cycle is done remove the pieces as soon as possible.  This will help maintain the shape and padding of your bras.  DO NOT put your bras and lace panties in the dryer! Lay them on a flat surface to dry.

Hand Washing Your Lingerie

Handing washing opposed to machine washing will definitely help keep the shape, color and life of your bras and lingerie. The same detergent used in the washer can be used to hand wash. You can also buy special lingerie detergent. Heritage Park and La Blanc White Flowers are our top picks.  Mild baby shampoo makes a great cheap alternative!

Fill a clean sink with warm water and add a third of the usual amount of detergent that you would use in a washing machine.  Throw your items in and let them soak for a few minutes.  Push the items up and down gently in the water to loosen any dirt that may be trapped in the fabric or padding. Be gentle! Knead and gently rub the under-wires and straps as this is where sweat and dirt can deposit most! When you feel they are clean remove the soapy water from the sink turn on a cool stream for rinsing. Be sure to rinse all soap residue from the fabrics.  If any if left behind it cause irritation when you wear the bra especially around the underwire area and straps.
