How The Anti-Rape Lingerie Works?

Do you think the new invention is practical? Share a commeant! Engineering students at the SRM University in Chennai, India, are hoping to make a difference and change the increasingly prevalent "rape culture" of society. New anti-rape lingerie is the latest developmeant by the group in hopes of offering women protection against sexual assault and rape. It is estimated that in India, a woman is raped every 20 minutes.

American statistics suggest that in the United States, almost 20% of women have been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. Prompted by the recent gang rape that occurred in Delhi, the students designed their anti-rape lingerie in hopes of decreasing these statistics and keeping women safe against potential sexual predators. As part of a line called Society Harnessing Equipmeant (SHE), the anti-rape lingerie looks similar to a basic, white nightie.

The anti-rape bra is laced with pressure sensitive electric wiring, able to shock an assailant up to 82 times with a force of 3800 kilovolts. Simultaneously, upon releasing the shock, the bra will also send an alert through GPS and GMS to police. The pressure sensors were strategically placed in the chest area as statistically, predators are most likely to begin their attack by grabbing for a woman's chest area. An protective layer of insulation is used to ensure that the woman will not experience any shock.

The woman can also flip the electric sensors on and off with a special switch that is attached to the waist of the garmeant. The team of engineering students are continuing to work on and refine their product; the group is teaming up with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to work on making their product washable. The group of students are hoping to produce an end product that is inexpensive to purchase and widely accessible to all women.
